All that Glitters | Juan Levya | TWFINEART Project Space
Born in Bogota, Colombia in 1984 Juan Leyva’s latest series of photographs titled ‘All the Glitters’ are an elegant minimalist statement about the currency of fast food and capitalist appetites in Latin America.
For this recent body of work Leyva transformed common local fast food items into sculptures of gold and platinum, imposing the value of the fast food industry onto the food item itself in an astute metaphor. To construct each ‘fast food’ sculpture, Leyva utilized various modelling techniques including casting, molding, air-brushing and gold-leafing to recreate each item in superbly realistic detail.
Leyva then carefully staged each sculpture in the studio, photographing it in a manner typically associated commercial product photography. By doing so Leyva is essentially selling the metaphor to the observer, seducing the beholder with a glamour that encourages them to reconsider the value of the object that they see in the image.
Created as archival pigment prints on silver coated metallic paper then mounted to Dybond, each artwork is signed and created in an exclusive edition of 10 pieces in two sizes.
