The proceeds from this project will be directed to the endowment of the Artist-in-Residence (A.I.R.) Program in Painting and Drawing, now celebrating its 36th year. All images in the Limited Box Edition are signed digital prints using completely archival materials. Each image measures 19” x 13” and is an edition of 100. Guyton, Sparks, and Smith each have contributed an image and also custom-designed the boxes for their individual editions.
The suite of three boxes, including 31 prints, is available as a bonus to donors who make a gift of $10,000 to the Artist-In-Residence Endowment Campaign. Because this is a gift to an endowment, most of the donation ($9,300) is tax deductible.
Founded in 1982, the A.I.R. program supports two semester-long residencies each academic year. Since its inception, some 80 artists, collectively, have taught more than 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students. This program, one of the oldest of its kind in the country, has a remarkable roster of participating artists. Most of the artists are now associated with major art galleries and are exhibiting in major national and international museums. For many of the former A.I.R.s, this residency at the University of Tennessee was their first teaching opportunity. Many have gone on to successful teaching positions in prestigious colleges and universities.
The three alumni curators, Guyton, Sparks, and Smith, have very successful careers in art themselves. Guyton recently presented a one-person exhibition at the Petzel Gallery, New York City; Smith was recently included in the exhibition Painting 2.0 at the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien, Austria; and Sparks recently presented a solo exhibition at the Kai Matsumiya Gallery in New York City.
When you decide to donate to the A.I.R. Endowment Campaign, you can feel confident in knowing that your gift will not only procure the Limited Box Edition for your collection, but will also fund the development of future University of Tennessee artists following in the footsteps of our curators and the contributing artists.
