Urban Spree Galerie presents „Urban Investigations – Redux“, the new body of works by Berlin-based visual artist Hendrik Czakainski. The opening reception takes place on October 22nd, from 18:30, at Urban Spree Galerie, Revaler Str. 99, Berlin-Friedrichshain.
“Architecture is for me a reflection on our times. We live in a world of discrepancies.“ Hendrik Czakainski
After his widely acclaimed “Urban Investigations“ solo exhibition at Urban Spree Galerie in 2015, Hendrik Czakainski returns to Urban Spree Galerie to further deploy his artistic vision of contemporary urban environments.
Czakainski’s large-scale artworks stem from his vision of globalization, industrialization and demographic chaotic movements. His works define urban agglomerations from the bird’s eye perspective and create a tension between the representation of harsh living conditions and its resulting idiosyncratic aesthetics through his unique abstract vocabulary.
The urban habitats in Czakainski’s works are not faithful replicas of specific places but artistically transformed tableaux.
This change of perspective gives a glimpse of the complex interrelationships in Hendrik Czakainski’s subjective view of the world. Ultimately, these artworks display fictionalities based on facts and an aesthetical construction of authenticity.
Urban Spree Galerie will launch on the Opening Night on Saturday 22.10 an exclusive screen print designed by Hendrik Czakainski for his show. Printed at Urban Spree, the one-color screen print is hand-embellished by the artist and is edited in a limited run of 50 copies. The drawing features an elaborate urban settlement drawn in a peculiar alphabet style, reminiscent of the Sao Paulo pixação. The artist then hand-paints each print individually with watercolor.
