Predominantly known as an abstract painter and for his formative role in the New York School, Tworkov maintained a special regard for figure drawing throughout his career and kept a rigorous practice of it. His commitment to close, attentive looking while drawing from life resulted in an energetic and diverse style. Tworkov's figures range from minimal, loose and calligraphic to busy, fragmented and abstracted interpretions of the human form.
