Vivian Choi Gallery is pleased to present, "Decisive Moment", the two artist exhibition by Kim Ji Won and Choi Seung Yoon, who have expanded the field of art through a combination of physical characteristics and visual effects of the materials of works. The beginning and completion of a work is the moment of the artist's decision. Only the artist who is the creator of the work decides the moment of the beginning and the completion of the work. In this sense, the artist introspects the decisive moment of completion of the work with the divinity like the Creator. Henri Cartier-Bresson's "Decisive Moment", which depicts the crucial moments of a lifetime, reflects the critical moment of creation that the artist recognizes the decisive moment in art making.
Choi Seung Yoon had a solo exhibition at Young Eun Museum of Fine Arts in 2014. His painting captures the moment when the dynamic lines of colours move organically and overlap.
Choi expresses the essence of the world that is dynamic and at the same time invisible through the screen of speculative emotion. Most of his works are mostly blue, because blue is the color of nature and ambilaterality and the color that best matches the notion of paradox and balance that he wants to express. Blue is also the primary color of nature which contains both sky and water, hope and despair, and hot and cold. Choi 's vision on the essence of the invisible world is composed of contradictory elements, expressing the contradictory order and harmony of the invisible world in which the universe and the earth, the yin and yang, the beginning and the end, coexistence and balance.
The lines collide and harmonize in space, but ultimately they are precisely controlled in the space set by the artist, just as the organic movement gains vitality. It visualizes that life does not exist independently but develops as a continuous organism connected with others. The titles of works such as

Kim Ji Won, who was selected as 'The Artist of Our Time’ by Kim Jong Young Museum of Fine Arts in 2015, has pursued a formative variation that evokes the characteristics of transparent materials through a series of glass works based on wine glass. Kim's glass molding works, which are executed by assemblage of wine glasses and wine bottles, assume the situation that the original shape is distorted through the characteristics of the glass melted in high heat as a molding principle. Attention is paid to the physical properties of the object.
Kim Ji Won visualizes the issue towards the troubled communication in the modern society by using the transparent material of glass that reveals the contents as it is while keeping its own presence. By transforming the original form through the transparency of glass, it presents the principle of unified communication connecting the world with the surreal form of beauty beyond the ordinary view through the new type of formative interpretation.

Kim captures the culmination of the formed shape by observing the progress of the deformation from the moment when the wine glass melts and deforms. In this respect, Choi Seung Yoon's painting and Kim Ji Won sculpture resemble. Choi's painting is an impromptu process that the artist capturing a moment of organic movement in which lines overlap and collide, and lines and faces unite and harmonize within it. Kim's works are not made out of molds but the artist chooses the ‘readymade’ artifact and observes a moment of climax in the process of diverting everyday things away from their original form.
VIVIAN CHOI GALLERY invites viewers to experience the moments of climax of the art captured by the two artists, Kim Ji-won and Choi Seung-yoon who have expanded the field of art by combining the physical characteristics of the material and the visual effects of the materials.
