Contemporary art has long formed a distinctive hierarchy: the upper level is occupied by curators and critics who define the "general line" of development, they decide what is worth displaying in museums or exhibitions, how much money it is required, etc. And then, the artists, many of whom spend a lot of time on self-interpretation, but hardly anybody is thoughtful of the specta-tor. In search of unknown meanings the viewer gradually loses his ability to emotional perception of art. Meanwhile, the art is beautiful because of just not having the only true form of expression. Playing with contemporary art, they almost forgot about the fact that only the artistic image in its plastic implementation is the main carrier of meaning. Plastic implementation can be and should be varied – this is exactly the VS Unio gallery’s message to the spectator. ‘NOEMA’ – the title of the first exhibition in the new gallery space, is an adopted word from the dictionary of philosophy. Noema is an object presented in a certain way. In reference to pictorial art, it is an object, impacted by the artist’s experience. Each piece with its specific properties (an apple, a building, a human figure, etc.) changes depending on how its properties are experienced by the artist. Someone perceives the real material world vividly (Oscar Rabin, Konstantin Lupanov, Evgeniy Kravtsov). According to Sergei Bryukhanov, noema is a world of beings, distinct in colour; that very colour is the quintessence of its author's experiences. In the pictorial art of Evgeni Zaremba abstraction appears to be more substantive, bringing out a variety of associations in a spectator.
