Black Fairy Egg Nest is the centerpiece of Julia Sinelnikova’s hand-cut resin light sculpture series, Fairy Organs. The installation is on view at Wallplay 118 Orchard St from January 8 – 17th. Executed over the course of 18 months, the series was first presented at Julia’s Bushwick studio accompanied by a special performance titled Conjuring Rebirth featured in PAPER Mag. Through Fairy Organs, the artist explores the non-binary nature of the organic versus the fabricated, the process of human customization through physical body modifications, and the construction of one’s digital persona.
Transparency and light are key elements in Julia’s work, in both concept and technique. Julia utilizes transparent sculptural elements and light play to symbolize our technology driven society – intangible structures controlling physical space, just as digital interactions control human life. Through installations, performances, videos, and costumes, Julia has built a visual vocabulary which incorporates organic forms and light to create fantastical growths, shapes that hark of re-imagined organs.
