Whilst dealing with epilepsy Angela Stimson would produce daily a self image using any medium. As epilepsy effects her memory and perception of reality the question arises: 'Am I who I the person I remember or am I the person I forget?'
Memory and the attempt to explain the unexplainable are the major themes that drives Angela Stimson’s work.
Constantly exploring the premise of, ‘Am I the person I remember or am I the person I forget’. Angela deals with severe epilepsy that shatters her memory, her perception of the outside world and her struggle with the distorted sense of self that this creates. In an attempt to externalize the internal, she uses an assemblage of diverse materials and mediums to create prints that are powerful, bold, raw yet exhibit a subconscious venerability.
Alchemy Unveiled was a commitment to produce a self portrait daily for one year. Each day she used different techniques and materials that became an authentic reflection of her changing self, a memory externalized. Each print revealing a hidden truth.
