We show early steel works from Julia Mangold’s private collection and the gallery collection which we brought together from different places in Europe in the last years. It is a rare occasion to experience Mangold’s early works from 1999-2002 in our show rooms at Schellingstraße which seems to be made only for this purpose. The second part of our summer exhibition 2016 is Julia Mangold’s new extensive group of works consisting over 50 framed drawings with wax and pigment on paper. Parallel to the sculptural works in space, extensive works on paper are emerging in the artists oeuvre which are equally significant. In a poetic silent way she translates the three-dimensionality of the sculptural works into the two-dimensional medium. Julia Manglod’s (born 1966) work is directly related to classic Minimal Art and still defines a independent position in a confident way. Her sculptures emanate a high sense of calmness. The interaction between the clarity of form and breathing surfaces, rich in nuances, creates a vitality which is able to fill every room with its presence. The decisive element for the sculptures as well as for the works on paper is the treatment of the surface with wax. The visual soft and smooth surface effect resulting from that provides a strong contrast to the hard outlines of the strictly linear forms.
