Hélène Binet has skillfully photographed the architectural masterpieces of Le Corbusier, such as the Couvent Sainte-Marie de la Tourette (1953-1961) and Saint-Pierre in Firminy (1961-2006). Binet highlights the striking forms and structural elegance of these edifices and captures nuanced details. Her work invites the audience to explore new perspectives, revealing the soul of each structure and the profound relationship between light, space, and form.
Swiss contemporary photographer Hélène Binet has been photographing architecture for over forty years. She has captured remarkable works by well-known figures, including Le Corbusier, an internationally renowned Swiss architect and city planner. Le Corbusier's designs blend the functionalism of the modern movement with bold sculptural expressionism. The depth of knowledge of architectural history is manifest in the way Hélène Binet portrays her subject matter, and her intimate understanding of each building is evident in the way she conjures up the spirit of the space through light, shadow and texture. Her unique style of capturing the essence of architectural masterpieces has earned her the most prestigious awards, such as the Julius Shulman Institute Excellence in Photography Award of 2015 and the Ada Louise Huxtable Prize of 2019 for outstanding contribution to the field of architecture. She was also voted to be one of the 'Hundred Heroines: Celebrating Women in Photography Today' by The Royal Photographic Society in 2018. The most recent milestone in her career was the solo exhibition 'Light Lines: The Architectural Photographs of Hélène Binet' at the Royal Academy of Arts in London from October 2021 to January 2022. The show featured around 90 photographs spanning projects across Hélène Binet's career, focusing on her ability to capture the essential elements of architecture. In 2024, Binet published an extensive monograph with Lund Humphries depicting her journey to becoming an internationally acclaimed architectural photographer. The monograph features two critical essays by Marco Iuliano, a professor at the University of Liverpool School of Architecture and faculty member of the British School at Rome and Martino Stierli, the Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Saint-Pierre in Firminy (1961-2006)
Saint-Pierre is a concrete church located in the model city of Firminy Vert, France. Designed by Le Corbusier, construction began in 1973 and was completed in 2006. The building features a striking form with natural light filtering through windows referencing the constellation Orion. Corbusier's design symbolizes the transition from earthly to spiritual, using geometric shapes and a roof angled towards the sun to highlight its cosmological essence.
