Postcards from Paradise: a journey back to childhood
I seek to explore the intersection of nostalgia, imagination, and the emotional landscapes we carry with us into adulthood. These paintings juxtapose the stark, awe-inspiring beauty of nature—a turbulent sky, a vast horizon, an idyllic seascape—with the iconic, simplified forms of LEGO figures. These figures, often symbolic of childhood innocence and creativity, are placed in contemplative positions, gazing out toward the unknown.
By placing these plastic avatars in grand, painterly environments, I aim to contrast the permanence of emotional memory with the impermanence of physical playthings. The pairing also speaks to themes of companionship, wonder, and the quiet power of shared stillness. In a world that often demands motion and progress, these figures remind us to pause, look outward, and remember who we once were.
