Sam Dienst: Tapestries

Sam Dienst explores the detritus of habitual rituals and experiences through textile. Colorful and bold, her playful tapestries become quasi self-portraits, blurring the boundaries between object and self.
Sam Dienst manipulates visual language by layering familiar objects alongside amorphous shapes, melding foreground and background, to fabricate a playful assemblage of color and form. Drawing inspiration from her immediate surroundings, her overlapping elements form painterly compositions of entangled domestic articles, resulting in dynamic, confetti-like clusters that challenge the viewer’s perception of scale. Dienst’s tapestries both critique and celebrate the endless cycle of consumption to reflect our interdependent relationship with the material world. About Sam Dienst Sam Dienst received her MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art and her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She has exhibited at the Museum of Museums, Seattle, WA; Martha’s Gallery, Austin, TX; and Metropolitan Museum of Design Detroit, Detroit, MI; among others.
