KBH Fine Art
16 days left
Deeply inspired by the people in his life, love, and colors, Coy draws significant influence from 1960s Pop Artists such as Lichtenstein, Warhol, Peter Blake, Jasper Johns, and Rauschenberg. This influence is evident in his vibrant palette and the iconography of his works.
Xander Coy's artwork is a masterful blend of carefully composed collages painted through a Pop Art lens. His paintings are built up with a combination of figurative and geometric shapes, creating loose narratives that invite viewers to remake or reimagine the world presented to them. Each piece encourages the audience to connect the dots, using their own imagination to give meaning to the piece.
Coy's interest in iconography, symbolism, and semiotics is a hallmark of his compositions. He incorporates familiar images and everyday objects in unexpected ways, recontextualizing them to impart new meanings. This technique transforms the familiar into the extraordinary, offering fresh perspectives and deeper layers of interpretation in each artwork.
Background
His journey as an artist began with a background in graffiti, painting on the streets from a young age. The experience of working with spray cans in challenging conditions taught him boldness, self-discipline, and perseverance. Seeking to expand his skills, Coy studied painting and drawing at the Slade School of Art in London, mastering the use of paintbrushes. His canvases reflect a fusion of his street art roots and formal training.
