Starting from December 9th, 2020, UARTSPACE is pleased to present the “Shape of Blue”. It is an exhibition of recent works of art by Lee Chae.
Selected as an exhibition support program for young artists, this exhibition shows (17) non-figurative works delicately expressed through “meditation” and “repetitive acts”. Lee Chae’s formative language, created through self-reflection, develops a step further through communication with the audience, not through his own experience. In this exhibition, the space and movement are composed dynamically. As pedals fall in a curve, the sculptural elements in the work and canvases of various sizes, large and small, are arranged rhythmically. The artist’s work, where the canvases are neatly arranged and the color blue is carefully pushed out by moving the arms, showing the dynamic behavior of the ancestors grinding the ink stick to create a quiet and calm atmosphere, but striking the brush at once on clean paper. It resembles wrapping up one’s mind. Therefore, the artist’s wish is that the artist’s own work can capture the heart like that through the harmony of emotion and reason. The blue color of midwinter unfolding in the exhibition hall will come not as a symbol of coldness, but as a color that expresses a comfortable mind waiting for the spring flowers to sprout while overcoming the cold.
